Hello from a new member!

    Hi everyone!

I just signed up as a new member and thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Pamela and I've been living with Chronic Pain and Chronic Fatigue (plus other health issues) for over 30 years now. I'm 55, happily married to my amazing husband Ray, mom to two grown kids (Troy - 35 who lives in Calgary and Ashley - 34 who lives in Langley) and Grammi to three amazing grandsons (Eric 18, Jeddy 16 and Calen 12). Ray and I also have one spoiled and much loved kitty named Dorie.

I live in Langford, just outside of Victoria where Ray and I bought a house just over a year ago. I was born in Vancouver and raised/lived in the Lower Mainland for a large part of my life, but we also lived in Calgary for 20 years - moving back to BC and specifically to the Island in 2013. It was always a dream to live in Victoria, and despite the fact we moved here without a job for Ray at the time (I've been on disability since 2009), everything has worked out beautifully.

In my former life, I worked as an Administrative Specialist, supporting upper level management, mostly in retail operations. I'm also a Certified Event Planner. I loved my job very much and it was hard to accept that my health had deteriorated to the point I had to go on permanent disability. I live with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Myofascial Pain, Osteoarthritis in all my major joints (including shoulders, elbows, lower back, hips, knees and ankles, and had my right hip replaced in Feb. 2017), a condition called D.I.S.H. which means Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis where bone spurs that look like melted candle wax have formed on my thoracic spine - they can't be removed and they cause pain and severe stiffness. I also have Trigeminal Neuralgia, Hypothyroidism, Bipolar Disorder, Type 2 Diabetes (on insulin), and Hallucinations of unknown origin (not psychriatric).

I do a lot of volunteer work with Patient Voices Netowork, being careful not to take on too many projects at the same time. I'm currently sitting on two committees (and co-chairing one of them) plus I'm also involved with the BC Support Unit regarding Patient Resarch and will be doing a "Train the Trainer" session with them, so i can co-facilitate future information sessions with them for new members. I also blog at pamelajessen.wordpress.com

I look forward to getting to know people here and learning and sharing together. My best wishes for healthier happier days for all of us!
